Buist 2024 Christmas Newsletter
It has truly been a MERRIJOYful year of adventure and fun. My two highlights of the year were my trip to England and my 70th birthday celebration.
At the end of July, I flew to London and then took a bus and train to Salisbury where I embarked on a Wesleyan Pilgrimage. This is where we visited all the sites of John Wesley the Methodist founder. We stayed at a guest house right across the street from the Salisbury Cathedral. It was a beautiful city that I had much fun exploring, including Poundland, which is equivalent to our now defunct 99 Cent Store. We took day trips to Epworth, where Wesley was born, Oxford, where he was ordained, London and Bristol where he preached. There were 35 of us from all over the US and one from Hong King. I flew with a woman from Reseda who was my bus seatmate who kept me laughing throughout our trips.
In honor of my 70th birthday I had a 70s themed party at my church’s Fellowship Hall where we had 70s music and had a contest for the best 70’s dress. We decorated with sunflowers and gnomes helped by Don and Caitlin. Don and John helped cook all the quiches for my 60 guests – friends and church family. I felt so loved with over 30 cards and lots of gifts.
Big news is that Benjamin, 26 has moved out to a studio apartment a block or so away so we see him often when he does his laundry. He and his girlfriend Caitlin join us for dinner often. When John’s girlfriend Melanie comes for dinner, we have a full house. Ben is also working at the tech booth at my church, so I see him weekly. John, 32 is still at home and he cooks us wonderful meals. For Thanksgiving he made a superb French Onion Soup.
Don has been working hard on the yard, leveling ground and placing pavers along with potted plants. He is also doing some painting,
I’m continually loving my church job. Our staff is amazing. My Children’s Moments are popular with young and old alike. I continue to visit our home centered, write prayers for the bulletin, do Pastoral prayers, do worship services for two Board and Cares and will be preaching in March. I continue to substitute teach on Fridays but will probably retire from it next year since I will be finishing my 25th year doing so.
This summer I plan to return to Seattle for a visit to see friends and family. Hopefully we can get the whole Wennerlind gang together.
Here’s hoping that you too will have a MERRIJOYful Christmas and New Year.
God Bless you all,
MJ for Don, John, and Benjamin Buist
